Cockpit

Home to some of the most exciting makers in the world. Spanning every kind of craft, Cockpit’s makers are united by their extraordinary skill and imagination.

Our Learning Offer

We offer tours to up to 30 students for £150 + VAT. The tour lasts just over an hour and we visit three Makers in their studios, they show their practice, talk about their journey and ask any questions. We have lots of time either side for Q&A. Tours can be tailored for specific interests e.g. Careers, Discipline, Academic Journey. We also hope to offer annual half-day careers engagement opportunities where we visit Makers in their studios, get an insight into careers in Craft and careers at Cockpit and do some hands on making. These are for groups of up to 30 students and when offered, are usually fully funded.

Example Project

In 2019 we welcomed William Ellis School for a half day Cockpit Creative Careers visit. We visited 3 Makers in their studios, and the students learnt saddle stitch to create a card holder.

Here is a quote from this visit from Laura Madsen, a teacher at the school:

"I just wanted to write and say thank you again for hosting our visit yesterday. The students really enjoyed it and we did too – it was so interesting to see a range of different makers at different stages in their careers and the way you also introduced the students to the different routes and skills needed was really good."
