Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration

Illustration workshops

Soon to open the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration, we are the UK's centre for this varied and vital art form, empowering everyone to tell their stories through images.

Book an in-school workshop led by professional illustrator-educators, to help students learn across the curriculum in fun and creative ways. Tailored to your topic, workshops support students' communication and wellbeing as well as subject learning, and are rated good or excellent by 100% of teachers. For all abilities including SEND and EAL.

When: 2022-23 dates now available

Age Range: All primary stages from EYFS to KS2.


Jewish Museum London

Baking Workshops

The Jewish Museum London is delighted to launch baking workshops in our new Community Learning Kitchen. Primary schools can book our new Shabbat Shalom & baking or Passover and Matzah baking workshops. Secondary schools can book a Shabbat and Challah Baking workshop.

In these workshops students will discover why Jewish people celebrate Shabbat or Passover, explore how they are celebrated at home and in synagogue and understand the symbolism of key Festival objects. Students will experience baking challah bread or Matzah in our new learning kitchen and enjoy the freshly baked goods together to experience the community feeling of Festivals.

Life with Loss: Understanding Grief & Memory

This new workshop for primary school years 5 & 6 and Secondary school, supports students with their mental health around the universal emotions of grief and loss as told through the story of Holocaust survivor Solly Irving, the sole survivor of his family. Discover how Solly lived with grief and loss through filmed testimony. Reflect on the importance of memory and process this difficult topic through creative response.

Please note: This workshop focuses on mental health. If cost is a barrier for your school, you can book this programme though our Bursary Scheme generously funded by the Irving Family. Please get in touch for more information.


Cockpit Studios

Creative Careers Morning (Secondary) FREE

Cockpit studios are looking for two Camden based secondary schools to visit with up to 30 students for a Creative Careers morning (or afternoon) this Autumn 2022.

Generously funded by John S Cohen, your students will visit three craft Makers in their studios, hear about careers in craft and the creative industries, learn about the different materials used in craft and take part in a hands on making workshop.

Dates available in September and October 2022, it takes around 3 hours with a small break included, visits to Makers can be tailored if necessary. Let us plan your visit together.

The Poetry Society

Cloud Chamber: Poetry CPD FREE

Cloud Chamber is an online network where poets and teachers meet to share ideas, resources, and best practice. Any practising poet, teacher or youth worker who works in education settings is welcome to join. It is free to attend.

Cloud Chamber meets quarterly on Zoom and focuses on a different theme each session. In a typical session, an experienced facilitator shares ideas for poetry activities, before opening up to the floor for discussion. Supporting resources created around each theme are freely available to Cloud Chamber members.

Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration

Illustration workshops and CPD this term

Soon to open the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration, we are the UK's centre for this varied and vital art form, empowering everyone to tell their stories through images.

Our CPD sessions and free online teaching resources support teachers to use illustration techniques in the classroom, across the curriculum.

Where: We deliver sessions online or in-person at schools across the UK.

Offers for Young People


Complicité

Mudlarks: Young Devisers FREE

Mudlarks: Young Devisers is Complicité’s new, free training programme for young people 18-29. The programme, in partnership with the Barbican, is intended for young artists who either self-identify as experiencing socio-economic barriers to the arts, have English as an Additional Language, or are facing other barriers to arts training.

Sitting within our artist development umbrella, this is a one week free training programme for young people with a genuine interest in exploring devised theatre, to be held at the Barbican in March 2023. It aims to create a community of future theatre makers with a core understanding of working with - and from - the body.

Where: The Barbican

When: The intensive pilot week of training will take place from 20-24 March 10am-5pm. Participants will receive a bursary of £70.71 per day to support participation during working hours. Taster sessions on 27 January and 1 February.

University of the Arts London

UAL Insights Autumn-Winter School 2022 FREE

Not everyone has an equal opportunity to enter higher education. We want to change that by supporting students via our UAL Insights programmes. UAL Insights is the Outreach programme run by University of the Arts London. We offer young people access to our Colleges for creative activities and pre-university advice and guidance.

UAL Insights Autumn-Winter Schools provide tailored support and in-depth advice for students who wish to apply for UAL’s foundation diploma or undergraduate degree courses starting in September 2023. Each Autumn-Winter School is a series of practical workshops and events to prepare you for submitting your application(s) to UAL.

University of the Arts London

Saturday Club at Central Saint Martins (for ages 13-16) FREE

Whether you aspire for a career like former International Vogue Editor Suzy Menkes, or current Editor of UK Vogue Edward Enninful, or you dream to update your growing TikTok audience about the latest designer collaboration, the National Saturday Club's Fashion Journalism course with world-renowned university Central Saint Martins has got you covered.

From teaching you the fundamentals of fashion writing for print and online titles, to equipping you with the editorial and digital skillset you'll need to thrive as a multimedia journalist today, you'll walk away feeling inspired, informed and ready to start your own media platform.

Throughout the 15 sessions, 13 of which will be taught at Central Saint Martins' award-winning campus, you'll get a taste of what it's like to study at university-level without the pressure or commitment to a degree, all while meeting like-minded creatives who have the potential to become the next generation of agenda-setting fashion journalists.

The final outcome will be to produce a contemporary website, that will be shown at the NSC Grand Exhibition at Somerset House in June.

OG Youth Collective FREE

This is a FREE group for young people in London. We welcome everyone and do all sorts. We make art, film, exhibitions and discuss current art projects, as well as visiting other local museums and galleries to further our understanding of contemporary art and exhibitions.

The Place

Children & Youth Dance Classes

The Place, London's hub for dance, offers children the chance to get playful with movement in classes which spark their creativity and imaginations. Sessions draw on a range of practices - including dance forms from the African Diaspora, Hip Hop, South Asian dance styles as well as North American/Western Contemporary dance styles. All abilities welcome, no experience necessary!


Cockpit Studios

The Rosalind Stracey Ceramic Award at Cockpit (for age 16+) FREE

Cockpit has three opportunities open for applications, they are looking for Makers working with needles, ceramics and traditional crafts in this round. Each Awardee or Bursary recipient will receive a space in a shared studio with hugely subsidised studio cost and tailored business support:

This Award is for a ceramicist who has a strong desire to experiment and take risks with their practice. We are looking for makers who demonstrate originality, innovation, creativity, craft skill and quality in the work and concepts presented.

The Award comprises a heavy subsidy towards one year’s business support and studio space at Cockpit in Deptford, including the use of a kiln provided as support from Rohde kilns.

Cockpit Arts Society Bursary FREE

A bursary for professional craftspeople using traditional craft skills, including those that are  at risk of dying out. The Cockpit Arts Society Bursary includes one year of business support and subsidised studio space.

The Bursary contributes to one year’s business support and studio space at Cockpit.


Cockpit Studios

The Needlemakers’ Award at Cockpit FREE

An Award for a maker who uses needles in the course of their work. (This use is not limited to hand sewing needles and may be at any stage in the making process.) We are looking for an individual who can demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit as well as creative excellence and craft skills.

The Award comprises a heavy subsidy towards one year’s business support and studio space at Cockpit.
